An unexpected puddle under your vehicle is never a welcome sight. A leaking fluid could signal a serious issue with your vehicle. Our Alfa Romeo service experts at Helfman Alfa Romeo of Sugar Land have a few tips to help you deal with leaking fluids.

Collect the Source

When possible, try to determine where exactly the leak is stemming from. While a leak is never a good sign, some are the result of a serious (and dangerous) issue with your vehicle. It’s important to determine whether or not it’s safe to drive your vehicle. To help identify the source, place a piece of white cardboard under your vehicle and collect a sample.

Inspect the Color

Most vehicle fluids have a distinct color to help you determine their identity. Keep in mind, these colors can darken or change completely as they age.

  • Oil – dark brown or black
  • Transmission fluid – reddish brown
  • Power steering fluid – light brown/red
  • Brake fluid – yellow to light brown
  • Coolant – typically a fluorescent color (bright green, yellow, pink, etc.)
  • Windshield wiper fluid – blue

Schedule a Repair

The fluids in your vehicle are designed to keep it running efficiently. Therefore, a leak can lead to serious (and costly) damage if not treated.
